Conversational AI security

In the age of artificial intelligence, we have come a long way. Alexa, Siri, Google Assistant, Cortana, Chatbot services, other speech recognition apps, and language translation apps have already made our work and university life easier. There is a specific name for this technology and, that is called “conversational AI.”

According to IBM reports, conversational AI is defined as “technologies, like chatbots or virtual agents, which users can talk to. They use large volumes of data, machine learning, and natural language processing to help imitate human interactions, recognizing speech and text inputs and translating their meanings across various languages.”

Components of conversational AI

Conversational AI works well because it combines natural language processing with machine learning. Natural Language Processing and machine learning work together to develop AI algorithms from time to time. Conversational AI comprises key components that enable it to process, comprehend, and respond naturally.

Machine Learning: Machine learning is a major subfield of artificial intelligence, a type of data analysis that can automate the creation of analytical models. With the help of machine learning algorithms, computers can learn from experiences and failures and make judgments and decisions well without human intervention.

Natural Language Processing: The research paper published by Elizabeth D. Liddy from Syracuse University defines Natural language processing as it is a theoretically motivated range of computational techniques for analyzing and representing naturally occurring texts at one or more levels of linguistic analysis to achieve human-like language processing for a range of tasks or applications.

According to IBM, natural language processing is the current method of analyzing the language output with the help of machine learning in conversational AI.

Automatic Speech recognition: It is the technology that humans use to communicate with machines and computers verbally. We all know that machines can’t understand our language. So that’s why we learn high-level or low-level programming languages. But everyone can’t, and they won’t. Therefore, Automatic speech recognition technology has made everything cooler by creating the ability for humans to communicate with machines so that machines can understand and fulfill the task.

Noise-canceling AI: Imagine you are answering a phone call received by your friend when traveling by a crowded bus. Will your friend understand what you are trying to say? He will say, “sorry, I can’t hear you clearly. Can you speak slowly and loudly?” which means he finds it hard to understand your voice separately from other background voices. The same thing happens to machines and computers all the time. In noise-canceling AI, it helps machines by canceling the background noises and helps to tackle the main message and run the task.

Benefits of Conversational AI

Accuracy: If you are a student who’s learning a new language at the moment, try translating a long sentence while you are reading it to the microphone of that app (ex: google translator). There is very high accuracy in it. Most of the time, it is 100% accurate. Having a high accuracy can make your work much faster and precise.

Cost efficiency: Everything in the current world is expensive, and so does the salaries of employees. If you just started your small or middle business, it will be hard for the owner to get more employees because the business has to gain a decent amount of income to cover the expenses. In such a situation, it is very convenient to have chatbots and virtual assistants who can do their part 24*7 hours because they don’t feel bored, or they don’t need a monthly salary. Yet, they can maintain their accuracy and precision.

Increase sales and customer engagement without contacting: The pandemic motivated the sellers and customers to involve in online ordering and purchasing because it makes everything contactless. The conversational AI tools play a major role here. Human employees just have to complete the order by referring to the order details provided by virtual assistants and chatbots.

Conversational AI security

Security is the major challenge that we have to address in Conversational AI. Many companies promote their verbal assistant products, such as Amazon Alexa, by introducing those as “the most trusted friend that we can have.” But can we really trust those high advanced machines? The answer is NO. Security issues like threats and vulnerabilities are very much common when it comes to chatbots.

You can buy an Alexa for your grandma as her 80th birthday present. And you can teach her the way of handling it, even. After using it for a few days, anyone can understand that these machines are super capable of doing whatever tasks that we ask them to do. So we get connected with it, and we automatically forget that this is just a robot. We tend to share everything with the robot, which is not quite secure because sometimes these chats can be unprotected and zero passwords used. And if the HTTP protocol hasn’t been used, it is much easier for the hackers to access the chatbot messages.

However, suppose you know how to protect your computers and machines by using various encryption methods (end-to-end encrypted mode is the best), authentication processes, and using the HTTP protocol, and following the procedure. In that case, you don’t need to worry about anything. Having the proper knowledge and education and educating others; sharing your experiences can make everyone start inspecting their tech devices.
